On Tuesday, July 13th, we welcomed teachers from the Banyule-Nillumbik and Whittlesea areas to our Teacher Ambassador Networking Event. The aim of our networking events is to connect educators within our region and give them a taste of what’s currently on offer at the Tech Schools – and this session took that very literally! Teachers were given the unique opportunity of experiencing our FoodLab program – one of our most popular design challenges – as if they were a student.
Working in pairs, teachers developed a value-added food product using mushroom stalks. The mushroom stalks themselves are provided by our industry partner, Costa Mushroom, and although equally nutritional as mushroom cups, are removed before being sold commercially. Teachers tried a variety of cooking methods, making use of our commercial-grade equipment, including ovens, stoves, deep-fryer, and smoker. Once the buzzer sounded, dishes were tasted, tested, and evaluated, with some very tasty results!
After the cook-off, teachers joined our lead facilitator and the Whittlesea Tech School director for a feedback session while enjoying some local charcuterie and refreshments.
